Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Track & Field Coach to lead and develop student-athletes within a seasonal program. You will coordinate with the athletics department, implement track guidelines, and coach practices and meets to foster growth and safety.

The role requires coaching knowledge, completion of MSHSAA/NFHS coaching courses, and a strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and eligibility regulations.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of coaching philosophy for a sport (Track & Field) and coaching methods.
  • Completion of coaching certification courses (MSHSAA/NFHS) and first aid training is required.
  • Strong commitment to student-athlete development and compliance with eligibility rules.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate track & field activities with the coaching team.
  • Implement athletic standards per MSHSAA Handbook and attend required sessions.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices and contests.
  • Organize practice sessions to develop students' potential.
  • Ensure safety and proper training and injury management procedures.
  • Promote ethical conduct and sportsmanship at all times.
  • Oversee equipment return in accordance with district policies.
  • Pursue ongoing professional growth through clinics and publications.

Position Summary

Provide leadership for the school’s athletic program through the continuous development, implementation, and enhancement of the sport(s) assigned, while promoting student-athlete growth, program excellence, and alignment with district goals and expectations.

What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)
  • Coordinate specific sport with a full team in compliance with MSHSAA standards.
  • Assist in implementing athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions.
  • Assist in the coordination of the program.
  • Assist in the supervision of students at practices and contests.
  • Help provide information for transportation, facilities, officials and game management.
  • Help organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with the objective of developing the student-athlete’s greatest potential.
  • Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of the best training and injury management procedures.
  • Conduct team and self in an ethical manner during practices and contests, always exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship.
  • Assist in getting the systematic return of all school equipment in accordance with the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook.
  • Continue professional growth through clinics and professional publications.
  • Must successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
  • Must fulfill 8 contact hours of professional development.:
    • District level mtgs –4hrs;
    • School level mtgs - 3hrs;
    • Outside mtgs/Clinics –1hr

  • Knowledge of particular sport (philosophy & coaching)
  • Must successfully complete the MSHSAA /NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
  • A strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and working knowledge of all collegiate eligibility center regulations.
