Company Description

KIPP New Jersey is part of the nationally recognized “Knowledge Is Power Program” network of free, open‑enrollment, college‑preparatory public schools dedicated to preparing students for success in college and in life. In 2002, KIPP New Jersey first opened its doors in Newark’s South Ward as a single class of 80 fifth graders and has since grown to educate students in grades K‑12 across 17 schools in Newark and Camden. More than 90% of KIPP New Jersey students currently qualify for free or reduced meals.

About the Role

We need you to make our schools run smoothly so that teachers can focus on teaching and students can focus on learning. In order to execute at the highest level necessary for our schools to fulfill promises to all students, we must develop our operational leaders with as much purpose as we develop our instructional leaders. We are therefore seeking candidates who can start immediately to participate in an interim fellowship. The fellowship is focused on training and on‑the‑job experience for all of the non‑instructional areas that are required to run a school.

Responsibilities
  • People Management: manage staff and support members, implement a performance‑management system, conduct meetings, and lead project teams in areas such as events, testing and attendance interventions.
  • Finance & Purchasing: develop and manage the school’s budget and oversee campus purchasing.
  • Attendance: build systems to ensure all students are attending school regularly and support chronically absent students.
  • School Operations: ensure day‑to‑day school operating systems run smoothly and efficiently, including front office, transportation, routines, transitions, arrival and dismissal.
  • Academic Support Operations: manage scheduling and test‑administration logistics in coordination with leadership and staff.
  • Student Recruitment/Enrollment: meet enrollment targets, plan events and outreach to families, and establish partnerships with local businesses and organizations.
  • Technology: oversee day‑to‑day operations of school‑based technology projects and plan enhancements for the next school year.
  • Facilities: oversee day‑to‑day facilities operations and maintain a beautiful campus.
  • Vendor Management: procure and manage vendors needed for the smooth operation of the facility, including contractors, service providers and maintenance workers.
  • Nutrition program: oversee the food‑service management company to ensure the meal program meets network expectations and complies with regulations.
  • Compliance: ensure school‑wide compliance with health and safety laws, staff certification, onboarding requirements, city and state mandates, and all federal and state workplace regulations.
  • Community Partnerships: develop and manage a protocol for community use of the building, including MOUs, background checks and compliant use of the facility.
