Job summary

Mt. Olive Pickle Co., Inc. is seeking two Night Shift Outside Production Forklift Operators to safely move raw materials across the yard and into production areas, performing forklift operations with attention to safety and efficiency.

You will unload inbound trucks, load outbound pallets, and transport items between graders, washers, hydrocooler, bulk unloader, and tanks, while ensuring materials are accounted for and not lost. You may also assist with other Outside Production tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• High school graduate; English reading/writing skills preferred.
• Certified forklift operator credential required.
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication) relevant to material handling.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklift to unload incoming trucks of raw materials.
• Operate forklift to load outgoing trucks with pallets and brine stock.
• Transport materials between graders, washers, hydrocooler, tanks and other equipment as required.
• Dump raw materials into hoppers and stack empty containers.
• Follow safety rules and company policies; assist with other Outside Production tasks as needed.

Description

We have TWO openings for a Night Shift Outside Production Forklift Operator.

Summary

Safely operates forklift on tank yard to unload and transport raw materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Operates forklift to unload incoming trucks (enclosed trailers and flatbeds) of plastic boxes, cardboard, or other containers of raw materials including cucumbers, cauliflower, pepperoncini, okra, onions, brine stock, etc. Manually pushes, lifts, or unloads some incoming raw materials packed in baskets or barrels and dumps into bins.


• Operates forklift to load outgoing trucks with brine stock, pallets, bins, etc.


• Operates forklift to transport raw materials in plastic boxes, bins, or barrels to and from the graders, washers, hydrocooler, the bulk unloader, the tanks and to grading and process as required.


• Operates forklift to dump raw materials into hoppers.


• Operates graders, washers, bulk uploaders, hydrocooler, or other equipment. Determines this equipment is operating properly, raw materials are graded or washed properly and raw materials are not lost on ground.


• Operates forklift to transport and stack empty plastic boxes and grade out bad plastic boxes.


• Weighs raw materials at forklift scales as required.


• Follows safety rules and company policies.

Other Duties

• Operates tractor to haul product on occasion. (Only trained/cleared FL operators to be asked to operate tractor)


• Assists with other Outside Production or Cutting department duties as needed.


• Cleans assigned work area including unloading and tankyard areas, graders, hydrocoolers, and washer by picking up trash using hands or sweeping motion with shovel, uses broom to sweep and. occasionally washes hydrocoolers, graders, etc.


• Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.


• Receives written and verbal instructions on the above job tasks and performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Certified forklift operator. High school graduate with additional training preferred. Ability to read and write in English needed. Basic understanding of addition, subtraction, and the multiplication table required.

Machines, Equipment, Tools Used

Forklift, Ramps, Washer, Length Grader, Bulk Unloader, Hand tools, Pumps, Broom, Shovel, Tractor, Bin, Scales, and other tools and equipment in the Outside Production Area.

Physical Demands

Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders (5ft) , stairs, ramps, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerate degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady forces in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a high position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.

Work Environment

Works outside, subject to wide seasonal temperature variations and intermittent wetness from rain or some job tasks. Fumes from diesel and propane forklifts, high brine, hot pepper, and stagnant water. Some contact with oil, grease, rust, brine and dust. Irritating machinery noise. Gloves, goggles, aprons, ear protection and steel inserts for shoes available as needed. May be required to handle alum, chlorine, anti-foam, vegi-kleen and gasoline required for forklifts.
