Project Overview

Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel manages and integrates the efforts of a team of contractors, engineers, and builders, and procures about $1 billion in goods and services. Construction began in 2023 and design and procurement of long‑lead equipment is underway. The project is located in the high desert of north‑central Nevada, 25 miles from the Oregon border, one hour northwest of Winnemucca and three hours northeast of Reno. The facility will use excess process heat to generate electricity and recycle process water up to seven times, contributing to sustainability and energy transition goals.
