Job summary

Plante Moran is seeking a driven student or early-career professional to join the Tax Operations and Innovation team. You will help automate and streamline the tax operations, develop low‑code/no‑code solutions, and collaborate with Tax SMEs to build tools used by engagement teams.

You will gain exposure to the firm’s technology stack, analyze vendor products, and participate in strategic research on advanced tech in a large public accounting firm environment.

Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented leader with problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Academic progress toward CPA exam and license.
  • Intermediate Excel skills preferred.
  • Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, APIs, and SQL a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and implementation of a tax technology strategy/roadmap to automate, streamline, and standardize the firm’s tax operations.
  • Assist in developing low to no-code technology solutions for the tax department.
  • Collaborate with Tax Subject Matter Experts to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain tools and templates used by engagement teams.
  • Work with tax teams to understand needs and develop technology solutions.
  • Understand the firm's technology stack and tax processes; analyze technology vendors for investments.
  • Engage in strategic research projects on advanced technology.

Our Tax Operations and Innovation team focuses on ensuring the tax department has the technology solutions and processes to fulfill their critical business needs. We align business goals and modern technologies to help tax practitioners create measurable value across a variety of commercial industries including manufacturing & distribution, real estate & construction, business & industrial services, private equity, and wealth management.

Your role.

You can look forward to a broad range of projects that will deepen your knowledge of public accounting and how technology plays a crucial role in serving clients in a diversity of industries. Your experience may include, but will not be limited to:

  • Participate in the development and implementation of a tax technology strategy/roadmap to automate, streamline, and standardize the firm’s tax operations.

  • Assist in developing low to no-code technology solutions for the tax department.

  • Collaborate with Tax Subject Matter Experts to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain tools and templates leveraged by engagement teams.

  • Work closely with individuals across the tax department to understand their needs and help develop technology solutions.

  • Gain an understanding of the firm's technology stack and usage, along with tax processes.

  • Analyzing technology vendors and their products to help the tax department make informed investment decisions.

  • Participating in strategic research projects on advanced technology.

The qualifications.
  • Detail-oriented leader with problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting, accounting information systems; or a Master’s degree in accounting or tax.

  • Academic success (a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0).

  • On track to complete the requisite degree and supporting credits to sit for the CPA exam, and to successfully obtain your CPA license in the state in which you will be working

  • Intermediate Excel skills preferred

  • Previous experience with Power BI, Power Automate, APIs, and SQL a plus

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary sitting position for at least 75% of the time.

  • Must be able to lift at least 15 lbs– specific job duties may require additional lifting to move, transport, position and install equipment.

  • Frequently positions self to bend and lift packages.

  • Occasional moving & lifting of equipment; bending, lifting, climbing required to position self to maintain computers during engagements.

  • Person in position needs to occasionally move about the inside of the office to access machinery, cabinets, etc.

  • Person in position frequently communicates with individuals who have inquiries. Must be able to exchange information in these situations.

  • Ability to work in a high stress environment.

  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license are required including a clean driving record.

  • Minimum levels of auto insurance coverage are required.

  • Ability to travel locally, work overtime and weekends is required.

  • Ability to travel overnight or internationally may be required.

This is a non-exempt position and may require work hours that exceed the standard 40-hour work week. This position may require some local, national, and occasional international travel.

The compensation range reflects the base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this position across our offices in the following regions: CO, IL, OH, and MA. Generally, experienced hires are not hired at or near the maximum salary range, as compensation decisions take into account a wide variety of factors, including but not limited to: responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography. For early career roles, including campus hires, we offer standardized, market-based starting salaries among individuals within the same hiring group. The compensation range for this role in CO, IL, OH, and MA is: $33.00 - $36.00
