Job summary

Civil Design, Inc. in Effingham, IL, invites a Civil Engineering Intern - Structural to join our multi-disciplinary firm.

You will support the structural-bridge team on design projects under supervision, gaining hands-on experience in civil engineering fundamentals and drafting. You should be a full/part-time student pursuing a degree in Structural – Bridge focus, with experience in AutoCAD or Microstation, and a willingness to work 30–40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Must be a full or part time student seeking a degree in Structural – Bridge focus within Civil Engineering.
• Knowledge of Civil Engineering fundamentals, surveying, drafting, and general civil engineering design (structural - bridge) /construction practices.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, the intern will assist in structural engineering to support a variety of design projects.
• Support field work or job sites as needed.
• Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication and teamwork.

Civil Design, Inc. (CDI) is a multi-disciplined civil engineering firm offering civil site, structural, land surveying, and GIS services. Since its founding in 1996, our team has grown to over 150 team members with six locations. We operate in three states serving our six service lines - Infrastructure + Analytics, Site, Structures, Survey, Transportation, and Water Resources. We have office locations in Missouri – St. Louis and Jefferson City, Illinois – Collinsville and Effingham and Kentucky – Louisville and Prestonsburg.

We are looking for a Civil Engineering Intern - Structural to support our CDI mission in Building Stronger Communities. This internship would support our structural-bridge team by contributing to projects and engaging with the team and supporting our mission of developing a better tomorrow.

Requirements

Job Duties:

Under supervision, the intern will assist in structural engineering to support a variety of design projects.

• Must be a full or part time student seeking a degree in Structural – Bridge focus within Civil Engineering.
• Knowledge of Civil Engineering fundamentals, surveying, drafting, and general civil engineering design (structural - bridge) /construction practices.
• Ability to assist in the field or on job sites.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff in a team environment.
• Problem solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn new concepts.

Desired Skills:

• Experience with AutoCAD or Microstation.
• Ability to provide 30 to 40 hours per week.

The anticipated base hourly range for this position is $22-24/hr. Compensation will vary based upon relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
