Job summary

Waymo LLC in San Francisco is seeking a graduate student intern to advance ML modeling, evaluation, and software development for our autonomous driving research efforts.

You will work with C++ or Python, applying ML and statistics to evaluate perception and decision-making systems within our simulator and real-world tests. This hybrid onsite internship offers hands-on collaboration across teams and competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a graduate program (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
• Proficiency in software development using C++ or Python.
• Solid foundation in core computer science concepts (data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design).
• Solid foundation in ML and statistics models, algorithms, and libraries.
• Knowledge of software systems, including distributed systems and accelerated computing.
• Interest in autonomous driving, simulation, evaluation, and physical AI.

Responsibilities

• Conduct ML modeling experiments and prototyping to build state-of-the-art evaluation tools.
• Write code within Waymo's simulator and evaluation systems.
• Design statistical experiments to evaluate the efficacy of ML discriminators.
• Collaborate across organizations to deliver impact to both onboard teams and downstream safety and simulation technology launch stakeholders.

The expected hourly rate for this full-time position is listed below. Interns are also eligible to participate in the Company's generous benefits programs, subject to eligibility requirements.

Hourly Masters Pay $70-$70 USD

Hourly PhD Pay $85-$85 USD
