Job summary

General Motors in Bowling Green, KY seeks an Industrial Engineer intern to analyze manufacturing operations and influence layout, staffing, materials and facilities. You will work closely with supervisors and mentors to develop actionable recommendations that can impact efficiency and costs on the shop floor.

You will work full-time, 40 hours per week, in a plant environment, applying critical thinking, communication, and teamwork to support project execution and continuous improvement

What You'll Do

We are seeking Industrial Engineer interns to do hands-on work that would potentially add directly to the bottom line of our culture and our company. You would be responsible for analyzing the efficiency of manufacturing operations and changes related to personnel, material, machines and facilities. Work involves leadership ability, critical thinking and communication skills. Makes decisions with mentorship from supervisors.

Responsibilities
  • Confirms or recommends changes to layouts, labor control and/o ur material control
  • Frequent contact with others outside the work group
  • Assists in developing accurate methods and optimum operation layout
  • Makes operation descriptions and performs the vital calculations to complete studies and change routines or other systems of labor and material control
Required Qualifications
  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Industrial Engineering
  • Must be graduating between August 202 7 and June 202 9
  • Able to work full - time, 40 hours per week
  • Must be w illing to work in a plant environment

Specific physical requirements of the position include the ability to
  • Walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections.
  • Promptly detect and respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals.
  • Wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and safety shoes.
  • Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold).
  • Frequently and repetitively bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform work.
  • Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasionally sit, climb (including ladders and lifts) and drive vehicles and equipment.
Work Arrangement
  • Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite . This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their assigned facility on a full-time basis.
  • Each successful candidate will be offered an onsite role at a specific location. Candidate location preferences are considered but cannot be guaranteed.
