Branch Builds, Inc. is offering a 2027 Summer Intern position in Heavy Civil Engineering in Richmond, VA.

The internship targets rising sophomores to seniors pursuing related construction and civil engineering degrees, with an emphasis on learning through real project involvement. Interns will support preconstruction, project management, and field supervision functions, collaborate with design teams, and participate in cost planning, scheduling, and quality control.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled college students interested in Building Construction, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management and/or a related degree.
  • Courteous and professional attitude when dealing with co-workers, customers and the public.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Assist Design-Build Coordinators with the goal of learning the process for winning and managing Design-Build Projects.
  • Work with pursuit teams and/or project teams (including designers) to influence and advance design efforts for the project.
  • Attend Technical Work Group meetings as well as meetings with designers/owners.
  • Assist Design-Build Coordinators with research (specifications) and documentation.
  • Assist Design-Build Coordinators with deliverables (meeting minutes, schedules, etc.).
  • Brainstorm with project teams to find solutions to construction or design issues that will improve safety, quality, and schedule, and/or reduce cost.
  • Develop working drawings/work plans in support of project teams.

Position Summary

Branch is searching for an Engineering Intern to join our Summer Internship program. We are searching for rising Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who are pursuing degrees in Building Construction, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management and/or a related degree. Our program is designed to provide a structured and supportive learning environment whereby the Intern will develop impactful skills and attributes necessary for a successful career in the construction industry. We are looking for students with integrity because it’s not just about the work we do, but how we do it.

Duties/Responsibilities

Assist Design-Build Coordinators with the goal of learning the process for winning and managing Design-Build Projects

Work with pursuit teams and/or project teams (including designers) to influence and advance design efforts for the project

Attend Technical Work Group meetings as well as meetings with designers/owners

Assist Design-Build Coordinators with research (specifications) and documentation

Assist Design-Build Coordinators with deliverables (meeting minutes, schedules, etc.)

Brainstorm with project teams to find solutions to construction or design issues that will improve safety, quality, and schedule, and/or reduce cost

Develop working drawings/work plans in support of project teams

  • Our interns will be tasked with actual responsibilities of the Preconstruction, Project Management and/or Field Supervision team but with the training, support and mentoring necessary to cultivate their constructive development.
  • Interact with subcontractors, vendors and owners.
  • Participate in cost planning and scheduling, materials procurement, cost control, and quality management
  • During the final stages of the program, the intern will prepare a presentation outlining their experience at Branch.
  • Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action steps.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled college students interested in Building Construction, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management and/or a related degree.
  • Courteous and professional attitude when dealing with co-workers, customers and the public.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Travel is required. A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is mandatory.
  • Passionate and determined to make a difference.
Compensation Data

Salary Min: $20/hr

Salary Max: $26/hr

Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position which will typically involve 40+ hours a week.
