Genentech in South San Francisco is offering a 6‑month, full‑time Spring Intern position in Pharmaceutical Technical Development – Bioassay. The role provides hands‑on experience designing and executing assays, analyzing data, and presenting findings with scientists across PTD and Bioassay teams.
You will work on developing cell‑based potency methods, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support process development, characterization, and product quality control.
Pharmaceutical Technical Development (PTD) develops, delivers, and supports robust, cost-effective production methods and technologies for innovative therapeutics to meet the needs of Genentech’s Research, Development, Commercial, and Product Operations groups. The group has long been recognized as a world leader in developing large-scale manufacturing processes, sophisticated analytical methods, and effective drug delivery systems.
The Bioassay department resides within PTD and is responsible for developing, characterizing, validating and implementing analytical methods for recombinant proteins and novel therapeutics, and ensuring robust assay performance and data integrity throughout the product lifecycle, from laboratory to manufacturing scale. A Bioassay team member may be responsible for assay development, commercial product support, continuous improvement activities, innovation projects, or other activities within the function.
This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.
As a Technical Development Intern, Laboratory focus, you will be assigned a project in the bioassay group within PTDA.
Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Chemistry, Biophysics, or related disciplines are preferred.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $26.00-$47.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
