Job summary

MKS Inc. in California is seeking an Engineering/Development Co-op/Intern for the Optical Sensing Products division to support new technology development during a 4-month term.

The intern will report to a supervisor within Engineering and complete assigned tasks throughout the tenure. Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or relevant majors.
• Excellent technical, analytical, problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Programming experience with Python, LabVIEW or MATLAB.

Responsibilities

• Participate in design, implementation and analysis of experiments on sensing technology.
• Design, simulate, construct and validate new test equipment.
• Set up and calibrate optical and thermal characterization equipment.
• Develop and maintain test documentation including plans, procedures and reports.
• Use statistical analysis software to analyze data and draw data-based conclusions.

Day In Your Life At MKS

As an Engineering/Development Co-op/Intern at MKS Inc.’s Optical Sensing Products (OSP) division, key role in supporting the development of new technologies and products. The intern will report to a supervisor within the Engineering group and will complete tasks as outlined below during their tenure.

Intern/Co-op Term

This is 4-month internship/co‑op position. Candidates must be available for the entire duration of the assignment.

You Will Make An Impact By

• Participate in the design, implementation and analysis of experiments to evaluate and understand the characteristics of precision temperature and position sensing technology and products.
• Participate in the design, simulation, construction and validation of new test equipment.
• Learn about and participate in the setup and calibration of optical and thermal characterization equipment.
• Develop and maintain test documentation, including test plans, test procedures, and test reports.
• Use statistical analysis software to analyze data and draw data-based conclusions.

Skills You Bring

Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or relevant majors.

• Excellent technical, analytical, problem‑solving skills, with systematic analytical interpretation of data and strong attention to detail.
• Good comfort level with hardware, lab equipment and hands‑on troubleshooting.
• Programming, for example using Python, LabView or MATLAB.

Compensation

Hourly Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour. This rate is a reasonable expectation of pay for this position, based on a range of factors including qualifications, experience, education, training, operational and business needs and other considerations
