Job description

What You’ll Do:

As our System Planning Engineering Co‑op, you’ll support efforts to improve how new energy resources and large electrical loads connect to the grid. You’ll collaborate with the team to improve interconnection and transmission service processes, develop tools, automate workflows, and find better ways to manage data.

Description

Your work will support a grid undergoing major change. Across the energy industry, older generating resources are retiring, new resources are connecting, and large new loads are creating additional demand on the transmission system. You’ll help a team working to ensure those changes happen while maintaining grid reliability.

You’ll Gain Hands‑on Experience With:
  • Python scripting and automation
  • Power system modeling tools such as PSS®E, PowerWorld, and TARA
  • CRM Dynamics and data management platforms
  • Generation interconnection and transmission service processes
  • Real‑world grid transformation, large‑load integration, and reliability challenges
A Great Day In This Role Means:

You’re collaborating with engineers to improve how resources connect to and use the transmission system. You might be writing a new script to automate a manual process, developing a better way to organize and manage data, or building a tool that gives engineers greater visibility into an interconnection or transmission service request.

You’ll also see how those efforts connect to bigger reliability decisions. The team helps evaluate the retirement of existing power plants, the addition of new resources, and the transmission needed to reliably serve growing electrical demand. Your work could help engineers determine whether resources remain deliverable as grid conditions change or support interim solutions for resources coming online before planned transmission facilities are complete.

Your impact is real. Improving these processes helps new resources connect more efficiently while supporting a reliable electric grid for the millions of people and businesses that depend on it every day.

This Is a Unique Opportunity Because:

You’ll join a growing team that includes former MISO interns who successfully transitioned into full‑time roles. They know what it’s like to be in your shoes and have helped create a supportive, collaborative environment where you can learn quickly, ask questions, and make meaningful contributions early.

You’ll also get a front‑row seat to one of the biggest transformations happening in the energy industry. The generation fleet is changing, large electrical loads are being connected at a rapid pace, and the transmission system must evolve with them. You’ll see how engineers balance those changes while making sure resources can connect, customers can be served, and the grid remains reliable.

What You’ll Be Proud To Share:
  • Contributed to tools and process improvements supporting generation interconnection and transmission service
  • Developed automation solutions used by engineers during your co‑op
  • Supported work involving new resource integration, generation retirements, and large‑load growth
  • Gained hands‑on experience with industry‑standard power system tools
  • Saw how your work helped support real‑world grid reliability and resource deliverability
