Aero is seeking an Space Systems and Orbit Determination Operations Engineer (MTS/SMTS) to join the Space Control and Awareness Department. This on-site role supports space mission analyses, algorithm development, and modeling and simulation for surveillance systems.

You'll work with stakeholders on orbit determination, GNSS, and sensor concepts, contributing to mission operations and threat assessment. Security clearance is required; U.S. citizenship is necessary.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Aerospace/Astronautics, physics or math (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months).
  • 0-1 year of industry work experience.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, and analysis and/or algorithm development.

Job Summary

The Enterprise Effects Division (EED) drives integration of Aerospace's strategic capabilities across the national space enterprise. The division leverages a broad array of engineering disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs, customers, and national challenges. EED spans the capability lifecycle from concept and architecture design to performance assessment to application of space and space-enabled capabilities.

The Space Control and Awareness Department (SCAD) is seeking a new team member to support space mission analyses and operations. SCAD performs concept development, systems engineering, mission support, architecture analysis, algorithm development and evaluation support for national security space customers emphasizing radar, electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) sensors, orbit determination (OD), positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT), command and control missions, electronic warfare (EW), space domain awareness (SDA), and space protection and security.

This is a 100% on-site position located in Colorado Springs, CO, El Segundo, CA, or Chantilly VA.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Provide astrodynamic analytical support, algorithm development, systems engineering and architecting, and modeling and simulation analysis for space surveillance systems and missions.
  • Conduct a range of analysis using a framework of modeling, simulation and analysis capabilities including in-house, custom and commercially available/government provided modeling tools.
  • Advise key stakeholders and government customers by performing analyses related to orbit determination, target tracking, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) analysis, and signal integrity.
  • Perform analytical studies, conduct tests, develop details of specifications, prepares details of analytical report findings, assists in planning and development of studies and design projects.
  • Analyze electro-optical (EO), infrared (IR), radar and passive radio frequency sensor concepts, architectures, and algorithms.
  • Perform space protection and space threat susceptibility, vulnerability analysis and resiliency assessment.
  • Support exercises of space systems and evaluate exercise and training requirements.
  • Application of modeling and simulation for mission operations.
  • Become proficient in the areas of SDA, Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2), space control, and orbit determination.
  • Independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation/modification of a variety of techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts on matters of importance.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited college/university program in Aerospace and Astronautics Engineering, physics, math or related discipline (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months)
  • 0-1 year of industry work experience
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, and analysis and/or algorithm development
  • Software development experience and proven capabilities in at least one of the following programming languages; Java, C++, Python, MATLAB, C, or FORTRAN
  • Applicable skills in designing and building filtering algorithms for Orbit Determination and PNT operations.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills along with the ability to work independently and interact effectively with Aerospace and contractor personnel
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
