Johnson & Johnson MedTech is recruiting an R&D LCM Co-op in the Wound Closure & Healing (WCH) R&D Organization in Raritan, NJ. The co-op supports the MedTech Surgery organization with hands-on lab work, test method development, and PLM activities for medical devices.

Responsibilities include design control, Verification/Validation, creating SolidWorks models, and data analysis with Minitab. Applicants must be enrolled in a STEM program, available to work full-time, and have U.S.

Qualifications

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university during the co-op session.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a STEM field (Mechanical/Biomedical/Chemical/Biology).
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the co-op session.
  • Minimum GPA 3.0 preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership or campus involvement is encouraged.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and basic technical documentation.
  • Hands-on SolidWorks and Minitab experience preferred for some roles.
  • Must have U.S. work authorization and not require sponsorship now or in the future.

Job Description

The Wound Closure & Healing R&D Organization in Raritan, NJ, is recruiting for an R&D LCM Co-op. Wound Closure & Healing (WCH) are a part of the Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery organization.

The MedTech Organization, based in Raritan, New Jersey, was founded more than 85 years ago as a pioneer in suture development and manufacturing, helping to transform the safety and effectiveness of open surgery. The MedTech Organization offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies including— sutures, hemostasis products, surgical staplers, trocars, energy devices and synthetic mesh devices that are used in a wide variety of minimally-invasive and open surgical procedures. Specialties include support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, women's health conditions, hernias, oncology, and obesity.

Positions are available in many subgroups of R&D and may include some or all of the following responsibilities:

  • Hands-on laboratory work in a chemistry or engineering lab
  • Performing studies and developing test methods and fixtures
  • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) of medical device products and combination products including: Design Control, Design Verification/Validation, Change Control Management, Material and Finished Goods specification revision, Regulatory Body request handling and associated design change project activities.
  • Good documentation practices, including writing test protocols, generating final reports, and documenting meeting minutes
  • Generating models and drawings in SolidWorks
  • Data generation, analysis and statistical evaluation using Minitab
  • Crafting and evaluating prototypes
  • Attending and participating in voice-of-customer (VOC) labs
  • Collaborating with engineers and external Suppliers to support project related activities
Qualifications
  • Be enrolled (not necessarily taking classes) in an accredited college/university during the co-op session.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Only students who have completed their freshman year or above will be considered.
  • For co-ops, availability to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the Co-op session.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or participation in campus programs and/or community service activities is desired.
  • A high level of organization and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Be comfortable working independently, as well as on a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Project, OneNote, Microsoft Teams, and have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Hands-on skills and experience with SolidWorks and Minitab for some roles.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States and not require future sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1-B status) now or in the future.
  • Ability to provide their own transportation to this work location. A stipend will be offered to students who meet the commuting distance eligibility requirements.

Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

Base Pay Range

$23.50/hr to $52.50/hr

Pay Transparency and Benefits

The expected pay range for this position is between $23.50 per hour and $52.50 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension). For additional general information on Company benefits.
