Job summary

Journey Dance Competition tours nationwide January–July, seeking a Production/Tech Lead to manage lighting, audio, video, and stage setups. You will coordinate truck load-in/out, troubleshoot equipment, and help maintain high energy and on-brand production throughout events.

This role requires travel, hands-on technical skills, and strong leadership to guide the production team and ensure safe, flawless performances.

Qualifications

  • Must have strong AV technical skills and be detail-oriented.
  • Experience coordinating production elements for live events preferred.
  • Willingness to travel and work long event days is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead load in/out of production equipment.
  • Set up stage lighting, power, signal runs, and cabling.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown across technical/media departments.
  • Oversee lighting, sound, video, and stage setup on site.
  • Conduct on-site testing and troubleshoot issues.
  • Ensure production aligns with brand and runs smoothly.

About The Role:

The Production/Tech Lead will be the go‑to person for technical assistance across all departments. This role is essential in creating the visual and technical experience for Journey events. The Production/Tech Lead oversees the setup and execution of all production elements, ensuring that every detail aligns with our high standards. The Production/Tech Lead will coordinate the setup of lighting fixtures, manage cable runs, and ensure that all wires are securely gaff‑taped for safety and aesthetics. This position will actively assist with audio, photo, and video setups, working closely with the entire production team to maintain a seamless event flow. Leadership during truck load‑in and load‑out is a key responsibility, as is providing necessary breaks for our audio, photo, and video team members to maintain high energy throughout the event. This position demands strong technical skills in AV and troubleshooting, along with effective leadership abilities. What a Weekend Actually Looks Like:
  • Thursday — travel to the event city from your designated meeting point or airport
  • Friday–Sunday — load in, early call times, long days, back‑to‑back sessions, awards ceremonies, load out
  • Monday — travel home
What You Need to Know:
  1. Seasonal employment with Journey Dance Competition Tour, January - July
  2. Must be available for Mandatory Team Training; Virtual - December 11-13th, 2026; In Person - Jan. 8-10, 2027
  3. Must be willing to travel by road or air
  4. Must be 18 or older
  5. Must be available from Thursday to Monday for travel
  6. Travel from a specified meeting point or airport will be required
  7. Minimum commitment 6 events or more
  8. Paid training, travel, double occupancy lodging, and event meals
  9. Ability to drive is a plus
  10. Official government ID required
  11. Background check required

Requirements

What Winning Looks Like:
  • Lead load in and out of the production equipment, as well as the setup and breakdown of stations
  • Leads setup of stage lighting and TVs — placement, power and signal runs, cable taping, and breakdown.
  • Assist with set‑up and breakdown across all technical and media departments
  • Oversee all technical aspects of the event, including lighting, sound, video and stage setup
  • Conduct on‑site testing of all equipment to troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues
  • Ensure event production is on brand throughout the weekend
  • Provide coverage to videographer
