Job summary

Bedrock Robotics is seeking a summer intern to design, build, and ship a critical internal tool for managing the robot lifecycle. You will interview users, gather requirements, and deliver an end-to-end solution with data, backend, and user interfaces across engineering and operations.

You'll work with fleet engineers and operators to learn production needs, iterate quickly from field feedback, and hand off clear documentation so your project remains valuable beyond the summer.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on building experience.
  • Ability to design and build full-stack software applications.
  • Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language (Python, Rust, C++, TypeScript, etc.).
  • Product sense: you'd rather ship the useful version than the elegant one.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity and defining your own scope.
  • Clear communication with teams outside engineering. Your users may operate excavators, repair hardware in the field, or work directly with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Understand, design, and build an internal tool that addresses a key challenge in the robot lifecycle, and define what "done" means.
  • Interview the people who’ll actually use the tool and translate their pain into requirements.
  • Build the tool end to end: data, backend, and interfaces, working with cross-functional teams to unblock yourself.
  • Instrument usage so you can tell whether it's helping.
  • Iterate fast on real feedback from real operators, traveling to the field if needed.
  • Document and hand off so what you build survives past the summer.

Job description

Join the team bringing advanced autonomy to the built world

At Bedrock, we're moving AI out of the lab and into the real world. Our team includes veterans who helped launch Waymo, scaled Segment to a $3.2B acquisition, and grew Uber Freight to $5B in revenue. Today, we're deploying autonomous systems on heavy construction equipment across the country, improving safety on job sites and accelerating schedules on critical infrastructure projects.
We're not here debating the future of AI. We're deploying it in the real world. In just two years, we've raised $350M and achieved the first fully autonomous excavator deployments in construction.
This is where algorithms meet steel-toed boots. You'll work alongside construction veterans and world-class engineers to solve physical-world problems that simulations can't touch. If you're ready to do meaningful work on hard problems, we'd love to have you join us.

About the Role & Team

As Bedrock scales deployments nationwide, every machine has to be reliably built, provisioned, calibrated, updated, monitored, and kept healthy. Fleet Engineering builds the platforms and internal tools that teams across the company use to manage our growing fleet of autonomous machines.

You'll spend the summer designing, building, and shipping a critical internal tool end to end, one we'll continue using after you leave. Along the way, you'll work with teams across engineering and operations, and see firsthand what it takes to run robots in production.

What You'll Do
  • Understand, design, and build an internal tool that addresses a key challenge in the robot lifecycle, and define what "done" means

  • Interview the people who’ll actually use the tool and translate their pain into requirements

  • Build the tool end to end: data, backend, and interfaces, working with cross-functional teams to unblock yourself

  • Instrument usage so you can tell whether it's helping

  • Iterate fast on real feedback from real operators, traveling to the field if needed

  • Document and hand off so what you build survives past the summer

What We're Looking For
Required
  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on building experience

  • Ability to design and build full-stack software applications

  • Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language (Python, Rust, C++, TypeScript, etc.)

  • Product sense: you'd rather ship the useful version than the elegant one

  • Comfort working with ambiguity and defining your own scope

  • Clear communication with teams outside engineering. Your users may operate excavators, repair hardware in the field, or work directly with customers.

Preferred
  • Experience with data visualization or operational dashboards

  • Experience shipping software to production

  • Exposure to fleet telemetry, IoT, robotics, or operations tooling

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and CI/CD
