Job description

Are you eager to support the strategic deterrence systems of the U.S. Navy and Air Force?

Are you excited by the challenge of performing analysis on complex weapon systems?

Are you interested in analyzing test data from U.S. submarines to help maintain the fleet's operational capabilities?

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering intern ready to embrace challenges associated with analyzing sophisticated submarine missile launcher and ship control systems. You will work with a multidisciplinary team that supports our sponsors in developing advanced analysis methods for deployed systems, modernizing existing Navy hardware, and integrating new weapon systems onto Navy platforms.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest and foundation in mechanical systems, dynamics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics and will have an eagerness to apply and expand their skillset across a range of technical challenges.

As a member of our team, you will...

  • Develop an understanding of submarine launcher and ship control systems.
  • Contribute to the development and application of physics-based modeling and simulation tools to predict missile ejection and underwater travel in support of trade studies, performance assessments, and conceptual designs.
  • Analyze flight test data to assess system performance and perform model verification and validation.
  • Develop streamlined, maintainable workflows across the team's suite of modeling and analysis tools.
  • Prepare technical reports and brief presentations to internal staff and sponsors.
Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Have some experience in MATLAB acquired via coursework or a prior internship.
  • Have a passion for developing high-quality models and software tools demonstrated through coursework or prior internships.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you…

  • Have substantial knowledge of MATLAB and/or Simulink.
  • Have experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • Have experience developing physics-based and/or system dynamics models of complex logistics workflows.
  • Have experience with developing data analysis and visualization software.
  • Have an active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
