Descrição da oferta de emprego

Description

Do you enjoy mechanical design and analysis in a collaborative, agile, and rapid prototyping environment? Are you passionate about taking on design challenges associated with both crewed and autonomous maritime vehicles? If you are pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Naval Architecture and want to work on some of the most exciting technical problems associated with surface vessels and submarines, we’d love to have you join our team!

We are seeking a mechanical engineer intern with curiosity about computer-aided design (CAD) and analysis of mechanical systems. You will join a hardworking team of engineers in a collaborative development environment, designing mechanical systems for maritime use. We are dedicated to crafting excellent technical solutions for our nation’s Navy, and our team is committed to developing outstanding engineering talent while promoting innovation and collaboration.

As a member of our team you will…

  • Design mechanical systems using a variety of CAD and modeling and design tools.

  • Conduct simulation, analysis and testing of mechanical systems.

  • Prepare for and conduct periodic design reviews, as well as technical reports and other briefing materials for presentation to all levels of staff and Government agencies.

  • Work closely with JHU/APL electrical engineers, fabrication shops, systems engineers, and external vendors.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are working towards a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Naval Architecture.

  • Are interested in working with CAD (Solidworks, CREO or other design packages), stress and thermal analysis using finite element or physics-based software (ANSYS, COMSOL), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling and manufacturing processes.

  • Have pursued technical projects and extracurricular activities outside of the classroom.

  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 Scale. Note: When prompted to upload attachments, please include a copy of your college transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).

You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you…

  • Have classroom or professional experience working closely with autonomous vehicles (UxV’s), remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) or crewed maritime platforms.

  • Have classroom or professional experience with Solidworks, CREO, or other design packages.

  • Have classroom or professional experience performing finite element analysis (FEA).

  • Have classroom or professional experience with MATLAB, Python, C++, OrcaFlex, or related software packages.
