Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) invites students pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering Physics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields to join the Immersive Training and Software Solutions Group. You will help design and deploy high‑fidelity training systems and analytical tools that support the Navy, Air Force, and Special Operations.

Qualifications

  • You meet our minimum qualifications: degree in Engineering Physics, CS, SE, or related field.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Eligible for Interim Secret clearance and eventual Secret clearance; US citizenship required.
  • Academic experience with C#, Matlab, Python, or Java.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Software roles may require web development (HTML/CSS, JavaScript) or GUI design.

Responsibilities

We blend scientific disciplines with creative problem-solving in order to design and deploy high-fidelity training systems and analytical tools that support the Navy, Air Force, and Special Operations.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are working on a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering Physics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret clearance by your start date and ultimately obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship
  • Academic experience with C#, Matlab, Python, or Java.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Software Role requires:
    • Experience in web development (HTML/CSS, javascript) or GUI design
  • Analysis Role requires:
    • Demonstrated contributions on a technical team based project
You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have…
  • Past internship at a UARC, FFRDC, industry, or formal research position.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with analysis and visualization of large data sets.
  • Experience with using a Game Engine such as Unity or Unreal.
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, MATLAB, or Simulink.
  • Working knowledge of 6DoF/3DoF models.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
