Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Melbourne, FL is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to join the Aeronautics Systems Intern Program. This role offers hands-on opportunities to work with a focused team on developing and testing software for advanced systems. The internship runs for the summer with full-time hours and potential relocation support.

The qualified student must be enrolled in a STEM degree, be eligible for a U.S. Top Secret clearance, and complete at least 10 weeks of full-time work.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate STEM degree and will be enrolled in Fall 2026.
  • Major in STEM field.
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) for at least 10 weeks Summer 2027.
  • Must obtain and maintain U.S. Government Top Secret clearance with program access; U.S. citizenship required.
  • Final approved interim Top Secret clearance and access may be required to start.

Responsibilities

  • Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, and maintain equipment, components, devices, or systems.
  • Work from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
  • Operate related equipment; conduct tests and report data in prescribed format.
  • Perform calibration and alignment checks; make adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed.
  • Prepare prescribed compounds and solutions.

Northrop Grumman is seeking Software Engineering Intern to join the Aeronautics Systems Intern Program. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Software Engineering directorate.

The selected candidate will work in a dynamic people-focused environment where he/she will interact with users, customers and other developers.

As an intern, you’ll participate in a summer internship program to develop competencies in a variety of engineering specializations that may include:

  • Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, and maintain equipment, components, devices, or systems.
  • Work from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
  • Operate related equipment; conduct tests and report data in prescribed format.
  • Perform calibration and alignment checks; make adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed.
  • Prepare prescribed compounds and solutions.

Basic Qualifications

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND will be enrolled full time in Fall 2026
  • Be majoring in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree.
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2027.
  • Be able to obtain andmaintaina U.S. Government Top Secret clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonableperiod of time, asdeterminedby the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite).
  • Final approved interim Top Secret U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special Access maybe requiredto start.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher.
  • Previous internship/co-op experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular)
  • Good presentation and writing/communication skills .
  • Self-motivated, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment .
  • Experience in developing and delivering presentations and leading small groups.
  • Experience in working in an autonomous work environment on complex projects.
  • Experience in working on business or engineering full life-cycle projects from projectinceptionthrough launch.

Intern Pay Range

  • Undergraduate degrees (Including graduating students planning on attending/enrolled in a full-timeMaster’sprogram): $18.50 - $33.50
  • Master’s: $26.25 - $41.50

Primary Level Salary Range: $1.00 - $1.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
