Job summary

Textron Systems invites students to join a 10-week summer internship in Slidell, LA, focused on production planning for crewed land programs. You will review designs, BOMs, and manufacturing data, supporting quality improvements alongside experienced engineers.

The role emphasizes planning, organization, and collaboration across Production and Engineering, with guidance and hands-on project work. A U.S. citizen with eligibility for a security clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or completed bachelor’s degree in Quality, Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering.
• Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities efficiently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; proficient in MS Excel; Power BI is a plus.
• U.S. citizen capable of obtaining a security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Review engineering and manufacturing information including designs, BOMs, and drawings.
• Approve purchase requisitions and design drawings; manage shop orders.
• Analyze data/metrics to identify trends and quality issues.
• Perform quality engineering work requiring technical competence.
• Collaborate with Production to mitigate future defects; interface with engineering and supply chain on quality issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

A Day in the Life of a Production Planner Intern

Reviews Engineering and Manufacturing information such as new and revised designs, specifications, and bills of materials; production, tool, and test equipment drawings; manufacturing plans; operation and routing sheets.

Conducts reviews, incorporate Quality planning, and provide approval for purchase requisitions, purchase orders, design drawings, parts, process plans, and discrete jobs (shop orders).

Monitors, reviews, analyzes, and interprets data/metrics to identify trends, failure modes, chronic/systemic failures, and process variation to improve Quality.

Performs Quality engineering work requiring a high degree of technical competence.

Performs work which involves conventional engineering practice and may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.

Engages in daily communication and collaboration with Production to ensure Production leaders are aware of and taking appropriate measures to mitigate the future recurrence of their defects.

Interfaces with all other engineering/integrated supply chain functions within the organization and on quality-related issues.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or have completed a bachelor’s degree in Quality Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities efficiently
• Ability to interact effectively with management, peers, and other employees relative to quality and technical issues
• Self-starter with the ability to work in a fast pace, deadline driven environment
• Effective verbal and written communications skills
• Basic Microsoft Office application skills with emphasis in MS Excel (Power BI is a plus)
• This position requires an individual to be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance.
