Job summary

Textron Systems is seeking a 2027 Intern - Mechanical Engineer (Sea Systems) in Hunt Valley, MD. You will join a multidisciplinary team to develop mechanical designs and support tests across sea-system projects.

Responsibilities include detailed mechanical design, CAD modeling in SolidWorks/AutoCAD, and producing formal documentation. A bachelor’s or master’s in mechanical/electro‑mechanical engineering is expected, with familiarity in ASME drawing standards and security‑clearance readiness.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering or related field.
• Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio).
• Familiarity with CAD tools; SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred; MagicDraw and Jira a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Perform hardware engineering activities within a team of mechanical, electrical, and software Engineers.
• Develop imaginative, thorough, practicable technical solutions to a wide range of difficult Mechanical Engineering problems.
• Contribute to concept development as part of internal cross-functional design teams, including prototyping, production, and test support.
• Perform detailed design of mechanical structures and subsystems using solid modeling, requirements analysis, trade studies, mechanical engineering analysis (including structural, dynamics, and thermal), drafting and tolerance analysis, and human interface design.
• Prepare high-quality formal engineering documentations such as drawings, specifications, design presentations to customers, test plans, and test reports.
• Support proposal activity, providing input to cost estimates and risk assessments.
• Brief peers, management, and customers on design considerations and program status.
• Prepare and/or manage design change documentation via Engineering Change Notices/Engineering Change Proposals.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electro‑mechanical engineering, or a related field.
• Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Visio).
• Familiarity with and ability to use computer‑aided design tools is required; Solidworks and Autocad are preferred, MagicDraw and Jira are a plus.
• Temperament to work in the lab, shop floor, or office.
• Familiarity with ASME drawing standards is preferred.
• Ability to obtain a security clearance.
