Job summary

Wallace Design Collective is seeking a Civil Summer Intern to join our collaborative team of civil, structural, landscape, and surveying professionals. You’ll work on real commercial, educational, healthcare, and land development projects, gaining hands-on experience in site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater management using industry tools.

You'll be mentored by leaders, participate in project teams, and observe field activities across the country while earning an hourly rate

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Coursework in fluid mechanics, hydrology, or surveying.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or GIS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in site layout and civil drafting using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Model stormwater and hydrology for detention systems.
• Evaluate grading plans and earthwork considerations.
• Support permitting and agency coordination.

As an intern, you won't spend your summer doing busywork—you'll be integrated directly into active project teams, tackling real site development challenges alongside seasoned professionals.

As a Civil Summer Intern, you will work side-by-side with our civil engineering team on real commercial, educational, healthcare, and land development projects across the country. You will get hands-on experience in site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater management while using industry-standard design tools to bring land development concepts to life.

Hourly Rate: $21.00 - $28.75 per hour

What You’ll Do

• Site Layout & Civil Drafting: Assist in preparing site development plans, including site layouts, utility routing, and grading plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Stormwater & Hydrology Design: Learn to model stormwater runoff, size detention systems, and design green infrastructure/BMPs using hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools.
• Grading & Earthwork Analysis: Work with engineers to establish finished surface grades, design retainage systems, and evaluate cut/fill site balances.
• Permitting & Agency Coordination: Gain exposure to local municipal codes, zoning requirements, and environmental permitting processes.
• Collaboration & Field Visits: Participate in intern learning sessions, project team meetings, and potential site visits to observe land development construction firsthand.

What We’re Looking For

• Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Technical Skills: Coursework in fluid mechanics, hydrology, or surveying. Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or GIS is a plus.
• Mindset: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, eager to learn, proactive in asking questions, and detail-oriented.
• Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills with a team-first attitude.
