Job summary

Ministry of Justice is recruiting prison officers for HMP Lincoln Futures with a 23-month deployment at HMP Highpoint before permanent transfer to Lincoln.

You will gain a wide range of experience, with accommodation support up to £750 monthly for up to 23 months, homeward travel reimbursement, and a recruitment/retention bonus at 12 and 23 months. Starting salary is £36,928 at Highpoint during the first phase.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old at start of employment.
• Must meet Civil Service Nationality requirements.
• Must pass a medical and fitness assessment.
• Must meet eyesight standards in both eyes.
• Must meet a suitable standard of hearing.
• Tattoos allowed if not offensive or intimidating; facial tattoos generally not acceptable except for cultural/religious/medical reasons.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a variety of roles in a single day, from peacekeeper to counsellor or teacher.

We are recruiting not just for officers who are needed today, but for prison officers to fill vacancies at HMP Lincoln in years to come. We need officers now to fill vacancies at other prisons and that is why we are recruiting to this special futures scheme that guarantees you a prison officer role at HMP Lincoln permanently but for the first 23 months of your service you will be working at HMP Highpoint.

It's a great opportunity. You will benefit from a greater variety of experience, you will also get help towards your accommodation costs paid for up to 23 months, receive a recruitment and retention payment paid at 12 months and 23 months and a paid monthly trip home. You won’t be on your own and you will be with other new officers who, like you will be returning to HMP Lincoln at the end of their 23 month deployment.

What’s on offer?

• We will pay your accommodation costs (up to £750 per month) for up to 23 months
• You will be able to reclaim the cost of a monthly trip from between HMP Highpoint and HMP Lincoln
• You will also be paid a recruitment and retention bonus of £1500 after the first 12 month and 23-month period

To become a prison officer, you will need to:

• be at least 18 years old at the commencement of employment
• meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements
• pass a medical and fitness assessment
• meet the required eyesight standard in both eyes
• for safety reasons, meet a suitable standard of hearing.
• Whilst tattoos are permitted, including those that are visible, they must not be deemed as offensive, discriminatory, violent, or intimidating in any way. Facial tattoos are generally not acceptable, except where this is for cultural, religious, or medical reasons.

Pay

Starting Salary - £36,928 – HMP Highpoint*

If you transfer to another prison after your first 23 months, your pay will change to match the salary paid at that prison.

The initial training is 37 hours a week. After training, you can choose to work 37, 39 or 41 hours a week. Your annual salary will reflect your weekly hours.

Job offers: Merit vacancy

This is a merit job vacancy. If you are successful at the online assessment centre, you will be added to a merit list based on your score.

When all applicants have completed the assessment centre, the prison will make job offers to individuals with the highest scores first when positions become available.

You can stay on the merit list for 12 months. After this, you’ll need to apply again.
