Job summary

Raytheon in TEWKSBURY, MA is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design, development, and documentation of components and major end items. You will oversee cross-functional teams, act as the technical focal point, and support integration with domestic and international factories and suppliers.

The role requires a STEM degree with 8+ years of experience (or an advanced degree with 5+ years), proficiency in CREO/ProE, PDM systems, and strong leadership.

Qualifications

• Experience from concept to production sustainment and crossover teams.
• Proficiency in mechanical design, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (CREO/ProE) and large assembly management.

What You Will Do

• Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, subassemblies, and major end items.
• Oversee small to mid‑sized cross‑functional engineering teams as the technical execution lead across all phases—from proposal generation to program initiation.
• Serve as the technical focal point for mechanical or cross‑functional teams.
• Provide support for product integration with domestic and international factories and suppliers.
• Collaborate with engineering and non‑engineering disciplines and suppliers to resolve technical challenges.
• Work independently with minimal supervision while ensuring schedule, cost, and technical commitments are met.
• Support and participate in design peer reviews and conduct trade studies.
• Apply mechanical engineering knowledge to solve problems in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering growth and knowledge sharing within the team.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 5 years of experience.
• Experience spanning concept development, detailed design, transition to production, and sustainment.
• Experience in mechanical design, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency with CAD design tools, ProE and CREO, including large assembly management.
• Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related hardware systems field.
• Design and integration of electronic/shelter assemblies and power distribution equipment.
• Troubleshooting electromechanical systems.
• Experience with interconnects, cables, harnesses, and CNC.
• Proficiency in ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
• Structural design and analysis experience.
• Understanding of manufacturing systems and electromechanical production environments.
• Experience in cross‑functional IPT collaboration and engineering risk/proposal management.
• Familiarity with EVM/EAC and willingness to travel (~10%).
