Pay Range: $18.35-$20.55 (min-12% above min)/hour, based on qualifications and experience*

SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting the classroom teacher with implementing instruction and/or reinforcing learning skills in one-on-one, small, and/or large student groups. Assist with preparing classroom materials, administering tests, grading, taking attendance, completing paperwork, maintaining files, documenting student achievement, and/or monitoring students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Frequency of duties, percent of time and work year may vary based on department or building assignment. This job description is not intended to be all inclusive and the employee will also perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

  • 1. Assist the classroom teacher with implementing instruction and reinforcing learning skills in one-on-one, small, and/or large student groups and adapting curriculum to individual student needs. Supervise students during periods of remote learning outside of the classroom. Implement and support the teacher's instruction plan, provide direction and guidance to students; effectively handle student discipline, ensure student safety and security; communicate with teachers and staff.
  • 2. Assist teacher in preparing classroom materials, administering tests, grading, taking attendance, completing paperwork, maintaining files, and/or documenting student achievement.
  • 3. Monitor students in classroom and during breaks, lunch, recess, time outs, on field trips, getting on and off the bus, etc. Monitor and enforce acceptable behavior for students and reinforce school-wide discipline procedures.
  • 4. Assist teacher and/or administration with special projects.
  • 5. Attend appropriate in-services, building meetings, training, IEP meetings, parent conferences, and/or school functions.
  • 6. Administer state testing (TCAP) in small groups.
  • 7. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of related experience
  • Experience working with students in a school setting preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
  • If assigned to a Title I school, at least one of the following criteria is required
  • completion of at least two years of higher education
  • an associate's (or higher) degree
  • successful completion of the WorkKeys assessment demonstratinginstructional competency within one year of hire
