The job of Facilities & Construction Maintenance Technician II is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for maintaining facilities in safe operating condition; addressing immediate operational and/or safety concerns; assisting Maintenance Technicians III and IV in various general maintenance assignments: carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, welding, locksmith, HVAC and generator preventative maintenance, grounds keeping, etc.; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at job site.
This job reports to Lead Person, Tech III & Tech IV
Skills: Operate equipment used in skilled trades, power and hand tools; adhere to safety practices; handle hazardous materials.
Knowledge: Basic math, reading and interpreting written procedures, writing routine documents, and speaking clearly. Understand standard methods, materials, and tools used in assigned trades, and safety practices and procedures.
Abilities: Schedule activities; collate data; use job-related equipment; work with others; interpret data using defined processes; operate equipment using standardized methods; problem‑solve to identify issues and select action plans; adapt to changing priorities; develop effective relationships; demonstrate mechanical aptitude; meet time constraints; maintain rapport with students, employees, and community.
Work under direct supervision using standardized procedures; provide information or advice to others as needed.
Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, frequent climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. Work involves approximately 20% sitting, 30% walking, 50% standing. The job is performed under temperature extremes and with exposure to risk of injury or illness.
