Job summary

Paradise Valley Unified School District is seeking a Facilities & Construction Maintenance Technician II to support the educational process. You will perform carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, HVAC, generator preventative maintenance, grounds keeping, and related tasks, assisting higher‑level technicians as needed.

Purpose Statement

The job of Facilities & Construction Maintenance Technician II is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for maintaining facilities in safe operating condition; addressing immediate operational and/or safety concerns; assisting Maintenance Technicians III and IV in various general maintenance assignments: carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, welding, locksmith, HVAC and generator preventative maintenance, grounds keeping, etc.; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at job site.

This job reports to Lead Person, Tech III & Tech IV

Essential Functions

• Arranges furniture and equipment for special events.
• Assists Maintenance Technicians III and IV in transporting and securing materials and completing specific tasks.
• Attends meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars to convey or gather required information.
• Builds items such as counters and temporary partitions to modify or adapt facilities.
• Coordinates with leads, supervisors and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
• Maintains records including generator usage and filter replacement dates as per guidelines.
• Maintains vehicle, tools, and equipment in safe operating condition and performs general maintenance activities.
• Performs preventative maintenance on systems such as lighting, HVAC, alarms, plumbing, security, electrical panels, etc.
• Performs general grounds keeping tasks including mowing, lining athletic fields, and spreading wood chips.
• Processes written materials such as work orders and documents activities.
• Repairs equipment, systems, and structural items to ensure safe working conditions.
• Requests equipment and supplies to ensure availability for installations or repairs.
• Services locks by adjusting, fixing, or replacing batteries.
• Transports tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure availability at job sites.

Other Functions

• Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Skills: Operate equipment used in skilled trades, power and hand tools; adhere to safety practices; handle hazardous materials.

Knowledge: Basic math, reading and interpreting written procedures, writing routine documents, and speaking clearly. Understand standard methods, materials, and tools used in assigned trades, and safety practices and procedures.

Abilities: Schedule activities; collate data; use job-related equipment; work with others; interpret data using defined processes; operate equipment using standardized methods; problem‑solve to identify issues and select action plans; adapt to changing priorities; develop effective relationships; demonstrate mechanical aptitude; meet time constraints; maintain rapport with students, employees, and community.

Work Environment

Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, frequent climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. Work involves approximately 20% sitting, 30% walking, 50% standing. The job is performed under temperature extremes and with exposure to risk of injury or illness.
