Instructional Assistant/Personal Care CNA – Special Education

Location: Pinnacle High School

Duration: 9 months, 7.5 hours/day (including monitoring support on transportation)

Grade 17, $17.50/hour

Non-Interim Position

Dates: 8/3/2026 - 5/27/2027

Purpose Statement: Provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting medically fragile students one‑on‑one; meet their special health care needs; assist the teacher with small group instruction; collaborate with the nurse to meet student educational goals. This position reports to RN for Special Program.

Essential Functions

• Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the supervision of a teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
• Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g., diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, medication).
• Assist students with mobility concerns (e.g., wheelchair transfers, bus loading/unloading).
• Attend meetings and in‑service presentations (e.g., first aid, CPR, emergency procedures).
• Collaborate with the nurse to promote and secure student health services, providing information and complying with care plans.
• Communicate with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, and parents to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
• Escort students to provide assistance and ensure their safety.
• Maintain instructional materials and/or records to ensure availability, provide written reference, and meet mandated requirements.
• Monitor students during assigned periods within various school environments (e.g., lunch, bus stops, playground, classroom, field trips, public transportation, assemblies, kitchen).

Other Functions

Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

• Adhere to safety practices and operate standard office equipment.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records.
• Perform basic math calculations, read manuals, write documents, and present information.
• Schedule activities, gather and collate data, and use job‑related equipment.
• Adapt to changing work priorities and communicate with diverse groups.
• Maintain confidentiality and work effectively as part of a team.
• Independent problem solving and analysis of issues to create action plans.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Technician, or Patient Care Technician.

Continuing Education/Training: Maintain certificates and/or licenses.

Clearances: Criminal Background Clearance; Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt.
