Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is seeking a 2026-2027 Head Baseball Coach to provide leadership for the school’s athletic program and to guide the baseball program through ongoing development and improvement.

The role includes coordinating the team in line with MSHSAA standards, supervising players at practices and games, and ensuring safety, ethical conduct, and proper equipment management while pursuing professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must have a Teachers Certificate or valid Substitute Certificate or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.
• Must complete MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
• Must fulfill 8 hours of professional development: district meetings, school meetings, outside clinics.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate baseball with a full team in compliance with MSHSAA standards.
• Assist in implementing athletic standards per MSHSAA Handbook and attend required sessions.
• Assist in coordinating the program and supervising student-athletes at practices and contests.
• Provide information for transportation, facilities, officials and game management.
• Organize and schedule practices to develop student-athletes' potential.
• Emphasize safety and injury management procedures.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct and sportsmanship during practices and contests.
• Assist in equipment return per KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook.

Title: 2026-2027 Head Baseball Coach

PURPOSE OF JOB

Provided leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation and improvement of specific sport coached.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Coordinate specific sport with a full team in compliance with MSHSAA standards.
• Assist in implementing athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions.
• Assist in the coordination of the program.
• Assist in the supervision of students at practices and contests.
• Help provide information for transportation, facilities, officials and game management.
• Help organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with the objective of developing the student-athlete’s greatest potential.
• Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of the best training and injury management procedures.
• Conduct team and self in an ethical manner during practices and contests, always exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship.
• Assist in getting the systematic return of all school equipment in accordance with the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook.
• Continue professional growth through clinics and professional publications.
• Must successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
• Must fulfill 8 contact hours of professional development.:
  • District level mtgs –4hrs;
  • School level mtgs - 3hrs;
  • Outside mtgs/Clinics –1hr

Minimum Qualification

• Must have a Teachers Certificate or valid Substitute Certificate or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Be a full or part-time employee in the District.
• Employed in the school as a teacher or administrator in which the candidate applies for a position.
