Job Description
Please note: This is a part‑time Teacher Assistant position. The position is Monday‑Friday and may involve up to 25 hours per week.
General Definition of Work:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical and clerical tasks in assisting a teacher. Employee may perform a wide range of tasks to support the efforts of the lead teacher, meet the needs of all students, and ensure the provision of quality instruction. The employee provides one‑on‑one assistance with academics and behavioral problems, may lead small group activities, and assists with general housekeeping and clerical duties. Reports to a Principal and/or lead teacher.
Qualifications
- High school diploma and 48 semester hours
- High school diploma and an Associate’s degree or higher
- High school diploma and at least a silver score on WorkKeys
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- General knowledge of daily classroom routines
- General knowledge of student handbook rules
- General knowledge of emergency procedures
- General knowledge of principles of organization and administration
- Some knowledge of the curriculum for the grade
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to constantly monitor student safety and well‑being, especially during inclusive activities
- Ability to motivate students
- Ability to maintain a clean, orderly environment
- Ability to perform general clerical duties
- Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom
- Ability to operate common office machines
- Ability to maintain basic files and records

Essential Functions
- Assist teacher with planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating instructional activities, developing classroom procedures, and preparing necessary materials.
- Constantly monitor student safety and well‑being, monitor student attitudes, and encourage self‑esteem; help students become increasingly independent.
- Monitor student behavior and help maintain discipline in the classroom.
- Assist students with learning; reinforce and clarify instructions; conduct short sessions on improving study skills; provide one‑on‑one assistance as needed.
- Maintain standardized records and documentation concerning student progress.
- Perform general housekeeping duties to maintain an orderly classroom; perform repair and maintenance tasks related to school equipment.
- Perform various clerical duties to maintain records of student progress; develop and file incident reports; grade student papers and score tests; check daily attendance; make copies; develop classroom displays and instructional materials; maintain and operate audiovisual equipment; order supplies; maintain class files, etc.
- Participate in staff development workshops.
- Perform related tasks as required or directed by a supervisor.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs.
- Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, the physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.
