Job Description

JOB TITLE: Substitute Bus Driver

SUMMARY OF POSITION/PURPOSE:

To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and extracurricular program.

SUPERVISOR: Director of Transportation

SUPERVISES: None

EDUCATION REQUIRED: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: School bus driving experience

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Possess or obtain a CDL State of New Mexico Driver's License. Training will be conducted by SCS- SBDI Trainer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Obeys all traffic laws.
• Observes all mandatory state safety and school bus driving regulations.
• Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
• Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
• Keeps assigned bus clean.
• Keeps to assigned schedule.
• Completes a daily pre-maintenance check before driving the bus.
• Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
• Discharges students only at authorized stops.
• Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips and daily bus route.
• Transports only authorized students.
• Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
• Enforces regulations against tobacco use and eating on the bus.
• Pass a DOT Physical
• Must be trained in First Aid/CPR & Defensive Driving. Attend all mandatory Trainings.
