Job summary

Youth World Physical Education seeks a Special Education Instructional Aide for PA Elementary in Port Arthur, TX. You will provide direct instruction to students under the supervision of a certified teacher, and assist with classroom management and materials.

The role supports Newcomers/ELL students, bilingual English/Spanish preferred, and involves preparing instructional displays, assisting with testing, and coordinating with staff. Immediate start; full-time, non-exempt; salary $17 per hour.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or 60 college hours completed.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction to students under direct supervision of teacher, in Spanish and/or English.
• Conduct instructional exercises and implement specialized interventions and strategies for Newcomers/ELL students; work with individual students or small groups.
• Assist in classroom management.
• Assist with parent involvement activities.
• Provide translation from English to Spanish, vice versa.
• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays as needed.
• Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
• Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of ELL equipment and instructional resources.
• Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers as needed.
• Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
• Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
• Participate in departmental meetings and special events as assigned.
• Adapt to changing demands when assisting teachers who provide instruction for distance learning.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.

Qualifications

Education: Associate’s degree or two years of study (60 college hours) at an institute of higher learning
