Job summary

Illinois Education Job Bank is seeking a dedicated teacher aide to support students under the supervision of certified staff in our Illinois classrooms. The role emphasizes reinforcing learning and assisting with programs and assessments.

You will help with classroom preparations, behavior management, and non-instructional duties such as supervising lunch, bus duty, and field trips. The position requires a Para Pro or equivalent certification and background checks.

Qualifications

• Teachers Aide certificate (30 hour college credit hours or pass the Para Pro exam)
• Personality characteristics compatible with the functions and responsibility of the position
• Demonstrate professional commitment and trust
• Must be able to do basic physical and visual activities
• Criminal background checks are required

Responsibilities

• Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement programs.
• Assists staff in administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
• Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills.
• Helps with record-keeping to document student learning and performance.
• Supports classroom behavior management to keep a safe, orderly environment.
• Assists students in non-instructional areas: lunch supervision, bus and playground duty, corridor, study hall and related duties.
• Accompanies students on field trips to provide supervision.
• Constructs, copies and distributes educational materials as needed.
• Assists teacher with parent contact to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.

- Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member assist student(s)

Essential Job Functions

• Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
• Assists professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
• Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
• Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
• Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
• Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.
• Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.
• Constructs, copies and distribute and use educational materials as needed.
• Assists teacher with parent contact as requested to foster effective and participatory parent involvement in student education.

Additional Duties

• Assiststaff or building administration, as needed.
• All other duties as assigned
