Job description

Position Summary:

The Communities In Schools (CIS) Coordinator serves as the on‑campus student support specialist responsible for implementing the CIS Integrated Student Supports (ISS) model to remove barriers to student success and improve academic achievement, attendance, behavior, graduation rates, and postsecondary readiness.

The CIS Coordinator collaborates with school staff, families, community partners, and service providers to identify student needs and coordinate appropriate interventions and resources. Through a tiered system of support, the coordinator provides schoolwide prevention services, targeted group interventions, and intensive case management services to students experiencing academic, behavioral, social‑emotional, health, family, or basic needs challenges.

As a representative of Communities In Schools of Northeast Texas and Northeast Texas Community College, the Coordinator promotes positive relationships with students, families, school personnel, and community stakeholders while ensuring services are delivered in accordance with CIS standards, grant requirements, district expectations, and organizational policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Support and Case Management
  • Identify and assess students who may benefit from CIS services.
  • Conduct student needs assessments and develop individualized support plans.
  • Provide intensive case management services for identified students.
  • Monitor student progress related to attendance, behavior, academics, graduation, and postsecondarygoals.
  • Maintain regular contact with students and families through meetings, phone calls, home visits, and otheroutreach methods.
  • Advocate for students and families within the school and community.
  • Assist students in overcoming barriers that interfere with academic and personal success.
  • Coordinate services with school personnel, community agencies, and service providers.

Maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.

Schoolwide Programs and Activities
  • Plan and implement schoolwide programs and activities that promote student success.
  • Support campus initiatives focused on attendance, behavior, school climate, mental wellness, and academicachievement.
  • Coordinate prevention and awareness programs addressing identified campus needs.
  • Facilitate resource fairs, educational workshops, and schoolwide engagement opportunities.
  • Facilitate small group interventions addressing topics such as:
    • Social-emotional learning
    • Conflict resolution
    • Attendance improvement
    • Behavioral skill development
  • Academic success strategies
  • College and career readiness
  • Monitor participant progress and document outcomes.
  • Provide individualized case management services for students with significant barriers.
  • Coordinate referrals for counseling, healthcare, housing assistance, food insecurity, mental health services, and other community resources.
  • Participate in crisis intervention and response efforts as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support student success.
Family and Community Engagement
  • Build positive relationships with families to increase engagement in student success.
  • Conduct family outreach and home visits as appropriate.
  • Connect families to community resources and support services.
  • Collaborate with businesses, faith‑based organizations, civic groups, and community agencies to expand available resources.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers and mentors.

Represent CIS at school, community, and stakeholder meetings.

Campus Planning and Collaboration
  • Conduct annual campus needs assessments utilizing stakeholder feedback and campus data.
  • Develop and implement a Campus Support Plan aligned with identified needs and CIS priorities.
  • Participate in student support teams, attendance committees, and other campus planning groups.
  • Collaborate with campus administration to align CIS services with school improvement goals.

Support implementation of district and campus initiatives that promote student success.

Data Collection, Documentation, and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records within approved CIS data management systems.
  • Document all services, interventions, referrals, and outcomes in accordance with CIS standards.
  • Monitor program performance indicators and student outcomes.
  • Prepare reports, success stories, and other required documentation.
College, Career, and Workforce Readiness
  • Support students in developing postsecondary education and career plans.
  • Coordinate college and career readiness activities.
  • Facilitate workforce development, employability skills, and career exploration opportunities.
  • Assist students with college admissions, financial aid awareness, scholarship opportunities, and workforcepathways.
  • Collaborate with Northeast Texas Community College and community partners to increase postsecondary access and success.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Participate in required CIS, district, and professional development training.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, conferences, and organizational events.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and ethical conduct.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with students, families, school personnel, and communitystakeholders.
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of Communities In Schools and Northeast Texas CommunityCollege.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of youth development, case management, and student support services.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with students, families, educators, and community partners.
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic data management systems.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with team members.
  • Ability to respond appropriately during crisis situations.
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral processes preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, FamilyStudies, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and families.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass required background checks.
Preferred
  • Experience in case management, education, counseling, social services, or youth development programs.
  • Experience working within public school settings.
  • Knowledge of rural community resources and service systems.
