Responsibilities

  • Instruct athletes in fundamentals, strategies, and safety for team and individual success.
  • Foster appreciation of athletics values, sportsmanship, and pride in self, team, school, and community.
  • Provide a safe environment through adequate supervision for all students in the program.
  • Assist Head Coach with maintaining individual and team performance records.
  • Assist Head Coach in maintaining accurate equipment records.
  • Convey team and MPCS policies to all participants.
  • Ensure compliance with PWCS Middle School Athletics and MPCS policies.
  • Follow the School Activity Funds Manual and local school policies on financial transactions.
  • Establish procedures for communicating with parents/guardians.
  • Inform students about athletic programs and encourage participation.
  • Assist Head Coach with public relations and information on athletic programs.
  • Implement procedures for handling injury situations.
  • Always ensure availability of first aid kits and emergency care cards.
  • Inspect facilities, equipment, and environmental conditions for participant safety.
  • Participate in professional growth activities.
  • Participate in award programs in adherence to school procedures.
  • Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship.
  • Assist other personnel and perform duties as needed for efficient operations.
  • Perform other related duties to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.

Job Summary

The Assistant Coach carries out the aims and objectives of the sports program as outlined by the Head Coach; instructs athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. This job reports to Head Coach/Director of Athletic/Director of Student Activities.

Qualifications
  • MPCS staff preferred.
  • Knowledge and background in assigned sport.
  • Previous coaching experience in assigned sport is desirable.
Essential Functions
  • Instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
  • Instruct participants on personal hygiene and safety procedures and in the need to report injuries to the coach and/or trainer immediately.
  • Foster among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, a desire to win, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community.
  • Provide all students involved in the program a safe environment through adequate supervision.
  • Assist Head Coach with maintaining individual and team performance records.
  • Assist Head Coach in maintaining accurate records of equipment.
  • Convey the policies of the team, local school, and MPCS (e.g., regulation on Student Responsibilities and Rights and Extra‑Curricular Activities) to all participants.
  • Ensure compliance with rules, policies, and regulations for PWCS Middle School Athletics and MPCS.
  • Follow the School Activity Funds Manual and local school policies involving financial transactions.
  • Establish procedures for communicating with parents/guardians.
  • Inform students about athletic programs and encourage their participation.

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office‑related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.
