Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Softball Coach to lead the school’s athletic program and guide student-athletes toward personal and team excellence.

You will implement MSHSAA standards, help organize practices, supervise athletes, and support transportation, facilities, and game management while pursuing professional development.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of sport philosophy & coaching.
• Must complete MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
• Strong commitment to student-athlete concept and eligibility regulations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate specific sport with a full team in compliance with MSHSAA standards.
• Assist in implementing athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend required sessions.
• Assist in the coordination of the program.
• Assist in the supervision of students at practices and contests.
• Help provide information for transportation, facilities, officials and game management.
• Help organize and schedule practice sessions to develop student-athlete potential.
• Emphasize safety precautions and injury management best practices.
• Demonstrate high standards of sportsmanship during practices and contests.
• Assist in returning school equipment per KCMSD Handbook.
• Continue professional growth through clinics and professional publications.
• Must complete MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
• Fulfill 8 contact hours of professional development across district, school, and external meetings.

Job Title: Assistant Softball Coach

Salary Grade: $4,500/season

Department: Athletics

Reports To: Athletic Director/ Building Principal

Position Summary

Provide leadership for the school's athletic program through the continuous development, implementation, and enhancement of the sport(s) assigned, while promoting student-athlete growth, program excellence, and alignment with district goals and expectations.

What You'll Be Doing: (Responsibilities)

• Coordinate specific sport with a full team in compliance with MSHSAA standards.
• Assist in implementing athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions.
• Assist in the coordination of the program.
• Assist in the supervision of students at practices and contests.
• Help provide information for transportation, facilities, officials and game management.
• Help organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis with the objective of developing the student-athlete’s greatest potential.
• Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of the best training and injury management procedures.
• Conduct team and self in an ethical manner during practices and contests, always exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship.
• Assist in getting the systematic return of all school equipment in accordance with the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook.
• Continue professional growth through clinics and professional publications.
• Must successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
• Must fulfill 8 contact hours of professional development.:
  • District level mtgs –4hrs;
  • School level mtgs - 3hrs;
  • Outside mtgs/Clinics –1hr
    

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student-athletes

To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To: (Minimum Qualifications)

• Knowledge of particular sport (philosophy & coaching)
• Must successfully complete the MSHSAA /NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses.
• A strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and working knowledge of all collegiate eligibility center regulations.
