Job Title: Assistant Coach

The Springfield, Missouri Public School District is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Coach. The job of Assistant Coach is to assist in the designing and implementing the athletic program for the assigned sport, in accordance with applicable rules and regulations; provide supervision of other coaching personnel; provide supervision of students during all aspects of the program; use sound instructional techniques in overseeing program activities; serve as a positive role model to student athletes; and serve in a liaison capacity for the school and program with other schools both within and/or outside the district, to the community, and to various organizations.
Performs other related duties, as assigned by the head coach, ensuring efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Knowledge: Basic math; review and interpret technical information; write technical materials and speak persuasively; analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge includes community support organizations and public relations; equipment used in activity/program; injury prevention and appropriate treatment protocols; laws, codes, policies and regulations; participant eligibility, attendance, discipline guidelines; public relations protocols; professional standards and practices; safety practices and procedures.
Skills: Multiple technical tasks with occasional skill upgrades; adapting to changing priorities; administering first aid; applying laws, codes, policies; coordinating activities with other schools, districts, agencies; organizing and communicating; overseeing financial transactions.
Ability: Schedule activities, meetings, events; gather, collate, classify data; use basic, job‑related equipment. Flexibility to work with others in varied circumstances; work with data using defined processes; operate equipment. Ability to work with diverse individuals, problem‑solve, analyze issues, create action plans; collaborate and communicate with diverse stakeholders; set expectations; apply critical thinking; delegate and organize tasks; maintain confidentiality and meet deadlines; model sportsmanship; motivate student athletes; provide firm discipline; lead and team build; travel to off‑campus events; work extended hours including evenings and weekends.

Bachelor’s degree in a job‑related field; minimum of 60 college hours.
