Job Title: Assistant Coach, Middle School Cross Country

Reports to: Site Athletic Director

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: Seasonal, Non-Exempt

Salary: Extra-curricular Stipend Group K

Purpose Statement:

The Springfield, Missouri Public School District seeks a qualified Assistant Coach to assist in designing and implementing the athletic program for Cross Country, supervising coaching personnel and student athletes, providing instructional techniques, serving as a positive role model, and acting as a liaison among schools, the community, and additional organizations.

Essential Functions:

• Analyzes opposition strategies to develop game plans.
• Assesses student athlete performance and provides feedback.
• Attends meetings, workshops, and conferences to receive and convey information.
• Assists with support activities such as parent orientations, recognition events, and banquets.
• Develops team and individual practice regimens (strength, speed, agility, nutrition, injury prevention).
• Creates game strategies and plans.
• Evaluates facilities for hazards and recommends improvements.
• Identifies program needs and recommends expenditures.
• Manages appropriate use of program funding.
• Implements practice schedules and related events.
• Instructs students in athletic skills and teamwork.
• Maintains records of statistics, insurance, permissions, schedules, inventory.
• Monitors student academic eligibility and provides intervention when needed.
• Oversees student managers and volunteers.
• Serves as liaison at athletic functions.
• Supervises student athletes during competition, travel, meetings, and practices.
• Supports college recruiting assistance.

Other Functions:

Performs other related duties as assigned by the head coach.

Job Requirements (Minimum Qualifications):

Knowledge: Basic math, technical information interpretation, writing and speaking, analysis; community support organizations, equipment, injury prevention, laws & regulations, eligibility, public relations, safety practices.

Skills: Adapt to changing priorities, first aid, legal compliance, coordination, communication, financial oversight.

Ability: Scheduling, data handling, flexibility, problem solving, leadership, confidentiality, teamwork, travel, extended hours.

Responsibility: Work under limited supervision using standardized practices and resources from other units.

Experience: Job related experience with increasing responsibility.
