JOB DESCRIPTION: TIER 2 PARAPROFESSIONAL
SALARY SCHEDULE: SCHEDULE JJ
DEPARTMENT: ELEMENTARY INSTRUCTION
FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
SAFETY-SENSITIVE: YES
POSITION SUMMARY:

To assist and provide support to the lead teacher in charge of the classroom. Duties include reinforcing lessons by tutoring individuals or small groups of students, assisting in creating and carrying out lesson plans, and aiding in maintaining a safe and appropriate classroom environment in order that students may learn effectively.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Have obtained an associate's degree (or higher); or have taken and passed the WorkKeys test, Parapro Test, the Oklahoma General Education Test, or completed 48 hours of collegiate studies at an accredited university. This is a required component for employment.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assist the classroom teacher with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment.
  1. Conduct learning activities with both large and small groups of children.
  1. Communicate with and work cohesively with the classroom teacher to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
  1. Assist with the supervision of children during instructional periods
  1. Oversee students during non-instructional times including transitions, lunch and recess, arrival and dismissal, and on field trips.
  1. Ensure the classroom environment is safe and clean.
  1. Assist with technology-related instructional programs
  1. Collaborate with the classroom teacher to recognize the issues students are facing and recommend solutions.
  1. Develop a positive rapport with students
  1. Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.
LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fume or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.

To ensure continuity of services, a different work location may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for a varied work location will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for this change will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.
