Job summary

Gallup-McKinley County Schools seeks an Athletic Coach – Baseball for the John F. Kennedy Middle School spring season. The role involves on-site work, instruction of athletes in fundamentals, strategy and conditioning, and coaching development through clinics.

Ideal candidates hold an Athletic Coaching License 7-12 or can obtain it, with a high school diploma, and be prepared to work evenings and weekends as the season demands. Reports to athletic director.

Qualifications

• Athletic Coaching License 7-12 required or ability to obtain.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Must obtain NM coaching license and complete Fundamentals of Coaching exam.
• Evenings and weekends work may be required.

Responsibilities

• Instruct and supervise high school and middle school coaching staff under athletic director.
• Teach athletes fundamental skills, strategy and physical training for team success.
• Upgrade knowledge through clinics, observations and coaching development.
• Work with students and provide practice support to win against opponents.

Qualifications

ATHLETIC COACHING LICENSE, 7-12

High School Diploma or Equivalency

AND

Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (https://webnew.ped.state.nm.us/bureaus/licensure/how-to-apply/athletic-coach-7-12/) from the New Mexico Public Education Department as well as completing the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association. • Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport. (Major sports)
• The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.

REPORTS TO: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: On-site attendance is mandatory for this position.

SUPERVISES: In several instances, the head coach must advise, coordinate and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.

JOB GOAL: To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.

Work with students interested in sports, provide necessary practice support and advice for a team to be successful against opposing teams in a sports season. Teach and enforce rules and regulations. Involves work on evenings and weekends.
