Position Summary
The Mold Tech will report to the Shift Supervisor and be responsible for ensuring production is operating and quality standards are maintained. The Mold Tech will lead by example, perform supervisory tasks such as designating packer/handlers and other team members to proper locations to meet production schedules. In performing these responsibilities, associates are to work safely, efficiently, and cooperatively in a manner that demonstrates team member involvement.
Key Functions & Responsibilities
- Set up machines for operation, change material and color to meet production schedules.
- Have a technical understanding of process and raw materials used.
- Keep supervisor/management informed of all problems.
- Start up machines and monitor quality at start up.
- Make appropriate adjustments to machines to maintain efficient production levels and document appropriately.
- Respond to QA Techs by adjusting machines to maintain appropriate sizes and standards.
- Oversee proper packaging procedures.
- Review production schedules and ensure machines are running production to meet customer demands.
- Respond to alarms and/or requests for assistance to correct machine malfunctions and/or Packer/Handler problems.
- Use proper Lockout/tagout procedures.
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance and Maintenance Departments concerning machine operations and malfunctions.
- Inspect scrap to prevent any usable product from being ground and record scrap numbers.
- Be able to do the packer/handler job to assist with relief breaks.
- Assist with Material Handling.
- Keep the floor stocked with materials required for production (fitments/handles/labels/tape, etc.).
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Responsible for ensuring quality and housekeeping standards are maintained.
Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities
- Cover for the supervisor in his absence.
- Train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; address complaints and resolve problems with supervisor.
Required Experience, Skills, & Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of injection molding machinery and processes, including mold set‑ups, troubleshooting, and exposure to maintenance problems.
- Maintain efficient production levels in a fast‑paced environment.
- Be able to identify alpha/numeric product codes.
- Knowledge of mechanical inspection techniques and practices.

- Read and comprehend complex, detailed instructions and correspondence.
- Write simple correspondence.
- Apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions.
- Deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
- Perform basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide) in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
