Job summary

Wabash is seeking a Material Handler in Lafayette, IN to help ensure safe, efficient daily receiving and shipping operations. You will report, stock materials, and support maintenance and repairs as needed, while following PPE requirements on a production floor.

Training is provided; workers operate in a loud, potentially dusty environment with PPE mandatory. The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and reliability for ongoing production support.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must pass PIV (power industrial vehicle) training.
  • Basic reading, writing, math, & verbal skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Own and improve performance in Safety, Quality, and Delivery.
  • Maintain and report daily receiving and shipping activities.
  • Report defects and needs for repairs.
  • Keep lines stocked with the proper materials.
  • Perform additional work as assigned by supervisor or coordinator; may assist in different departments.

Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Owning and helping improve our performance in Safety, Quality, and Delivery
  • Maintaining and reporting daily receiving and shipping activities
  • Reporting defects and needs for repairs
  • Keeping lines stocked with the proper materials
  • Performing additional work as assigned by the supervisor or coordinator, which may require the employee to assist in different departments
  • Wearing approved personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses with side shields, respirators, hearing protection, etc.
  • Completing assigned duties in accordance with safety, policies, and practices, including your individual safety, as well as the safety of co-workers, and the safe use of equipment in the workplace

Experience and education are a plus; however, it's not required. Wabash provides training for all material handler positions. Upon receiving a letter from us, you'll undergo orientation and several days of training, preparing you for the production floor. Working conditions may consist of loud noise, welding, paint fumes, and grinding dust.

Physical Demands:

As an employee in this department, you are regularly required to stand, walk, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, handle and operate controls for the length of their entire shift. The employee needs a full range of motion in arms and hands in this position. All personnel must be able to successfully communicate with fellow employees as well. In this position, some employees also work in small spaces throughout their shift and frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, along with good hand-eye coordination.
