Job summary

Great Lakes Cheese in Abilene, TX seeks a Senior Machine Operator to run packaging equipment and ensure adherence to GMP and safety policies. You will monitor line performance, quality checks, and coordinate with maintenance for repairs.

The role requires hands-on experience with production packaging equipment, strong problem-solving, and the ability to train new operators across shifts.

Qualifications

• 3 years of machine operator experience or more.
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and related equipment.
• Ability to make minor decisions based on standard practices.
• Ability to operate multiple pieces of packaging equipment.
• Ability to read, prepare and comprehend production reports and worksheets.
• Ability to communicate with line personnel regarding information contained therein, and regarding quality and safety issues.
• Ability to set up and adjust packaging equipment using automatic computer controls.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve.
• Ability to operate all production packaging equipment.
• Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide.
• Ability to work different shifts as requested.
• Travels to other plants for special projects and training.

Responsibilities

• Ensure cheese quality.

• Verify cheese size and specs are within tolerances.
• Take metric measurements and temperature readings.
• Make weight adjustments.
• Review orders and perform quality checks on packaging.
• Use downtime productively.
• Communicate production issues to line personnel.
• Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
• Display broad knowledge of customers and equipment.
• Assist maintenance and supervision with repairs/testing.
• Train and motivate new operators.
• Adhere to safety policies and Safe Quality Food program.

Job Overview

The Senior Machine Operator operates machinery to meet customer specifications in compliance with company policy related to GMP's and Safety.

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain area, equipment, and personal sanitation.
• Ensure proper set up of film, labels, cheese and operation of machinery.
• Frequently inspect conveyor belt to ensure smooth flow of cheese.
• Grease/clean machine based on preventative maintenance schedule.
• Ensure cheese quality.
• Monitor line for speed, adequate feed of cheese products.
• Ensure size and specifications of cheese are in tolerances.
• Ability to take metric measurements and measurements of temperature.
• Make weight adjustments.
• Review order specifications and perform quality check to ensure product is packaged according to customer specifications.
• Productive use of down time.
• Communicate to line personnel on daily production issues, changes and safety issues.
• Operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
• Displays a broad range of customer and equipment knowledge.
• Assists maintenance and supervision with repairs, updates, testing, special project information gathering.
• Train and motivate new operators.

Required Education And Experience

Working Conditions

• Ability to constantly stand/walk; bend/flex/extend neck; frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with L/R hands.
• Ability to frequently handle material from floor-to-waist, waist-to-shoulder and pushing/pulling/carrying.
• Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hardhats, and/or safety glasses may be required.
• Product weight: up to 100 lbs
• Repetitive work in a fast-paced production environment with average temperature of 50-60 degrees F.
