If you are a degreed CNC machinist looking to step away from rigid, micromanaged environments where operators are treated like basic "button pushers," this senior-track seat is built for you. The employer is a globally recognized, privately held industrial equipment manufacturer specializing in high-performance heavy machinery and advanced work tools. Built on a strong culture of safety, stability, and internal advancement, this organization rejects corporate politics and focuses on craftsman-level quality.
In this high-autonomy role, you will be treated as a true technical craftsman. Working on complex, low-volume setups for high-strength industrial builds, you will own large-scale milling centers and multi-axis machinery while collaborating directly with engineering and fabrication teams. The company protects your work-life balance with a flexible 1st shift schedule, daytime start windows, and strong performance incentives.
What You Will Be Doing (Daily Responsibilities)
- Execute Complex Setups: Perform independent tool and fixture setups and advanced operations on large-scale CNC milling centers, lathes, and multi-axis machine tools.
- Controller-Level Optimization: Edit G&M code directly at the machine controller and optimize active program paths to safely machine high-precision parts from high-strength alloys.
- Interpret Blueprints & GD&T: Analyze complex engineering drawings and technical blueprints to establish precise operational sequences and verify strict geometric tolerances.
- Conduct Precision Metrology: Utilize specialized measuring tools (bore gauges, micrometers, calipers) to perform thorough quality inspections and ensure 100% part conformance.
- Collaborate with Engineering: Partner directly with internal engineering and welding fabrication teams to troubleshoot program variables, optimize cycle times, and resolve setup roadblocks.
- Maintain Asset Care & Safety: Uphold safety-first operational standards, perform basic preventative maintenance, and maintain a clean workstation adhering to 5S principles.
What We Are Looking For (Requirements & Qualifications)
- Education: 2-Year Technical Diploma or Associate Degree in CNC Machining / Machine Tool Technology required.
- Large-Scale Machining Depth: Verified professional experience setting up large milling centers and executing close-tolerance work on complex, massive workpieces.
- Multi-Axis Capabilities: Practical fluency with multi-axis configurations (5-axis machining or live-tool turning experience is a strong plus; advanced internal training available).
- Technical Literacy: Expert capability with controller-level G&M code editing, MDI input, and GD&T blueprint standards.
- Analytical Problem-Solving: Ability to evaluate tool wear on active runs, calculate cutting parameters, and troubleshoot unproven program paths on the fly.
- Employment Reliability: A solid, steady work history demonstrating long-term career commitment and multi-year tenure with prior employers.
- Local Proximity: Residing within a comfortable daily driving radius of the Greater Duluth, MN area.
