Brief Summary of JobThe Agronomy Tender Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating a tender truck and transporting fertilizer and agricultural chemicals from the loading facility to the field of application. This position also assists with loading trucks and application equipment, maintaining equipment and facilities, completing required vehicle inspections and documentation, and providing professional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a tender truck and safely transport fertilizer and agricultural chemicals from the loading facility to the field of application.
- Assist with loading trucks and application equipment.
- Connect hoses and hook up appropriate equipment at the loading location or in the field.
- Operate PTO-driven pumps to operate augers and conveyors.
- Open and close hopper doors to allow product flow.
- Maintain the equipment and facilities in a safe, clean, and professional condition.
- Perform and record daily safety checks of assigned vehicles and associated equipment.
- Conduct required pre-trip inspections, including checking fuel and oil levels and inspecting tires, lights, and brakes.
- Follow the established preventative maintenance program.
- Maintain a clean truck and professional appearance.
- Ensure all deliveries and pickups are completed according to established time schedules.
- Perform duties in a manner that promotes superior customer service and professionalism within the company and the agricultural industry.
- Complete necessary paperwork, including accurate logbooks, cargo records, and other assigned recordkeeping duties on a daily basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualities / Skills Needed
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) REQUIRED — Class B and/or Class A CDL.
- Air brake, tanker, and HAZMAT endorsements required.
- Must be certified to operate a manual transmission.
- No more than one chargeable accident within the last three years.
- No more than one moving violation within the last three years.
- No convictions for DUI, DUS, or open container violations within the last seven years.
- No conviction for unlawful use, possession, or distribution of a controlled substance.
- No positive controlled substance or alcohol tests from a prior employer.
- Ability to follow directions and use logical thought processes to interpret oral and written instructions.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and identify appropriate solutions.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and/or alternate shifts as needed.
- Ability to be on-call as business conditions warrant.
- Good sense of direction and/or ability to navigate surrounding roads, fields, farms, and service areas.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
This position requires considerable physical exertion and may involve demanding outdoor and agricultural working conditions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50–70 pounds.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods as required.
- Ability to handle hoses, equipment, and other materials associated with fertilizer and agricultural chemical delivery.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions, including hot, cold, wet, and other outdoor conditions.
- Exposure to noisy working conditions.
- Working conditions may include exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, and electrical hazards.
- Appropriate safety measures and personal protective equipment must be used at all times.
