Job summary

Mom’s Meals is hiring a Blast Chill Food Safety Specialist in Grinnell, IA. This role handles pre-quality assurance tasks, moving prepared foods through Cryo-cabinet and Blast Chiller, and staging for the Pack Room with precise labeling and allergen marking.

Responsibilities include temperature checks, accurate documentation, and ensuring products meet HACCP timelines, while maintaining a clean, safe work area and collaborating with QA and RTE teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; at least 18 years old.
• Ability to stand/walk for up to 8–10 hours in varying temperatures.
• Basic math skills including weight and measurement reading.
• Shifts may include weekends, holidays and overtime as required.
• Strong service orientation and teamwork; good communication.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Preferred: experience on a production line.

Responsibilities

• Chill cooked products through Cryo-cabinet and Blast Chiller within HACCP timelines.
• Use digital thermometers to check temperatures; move trays to maintain time.
• Document temperatures and weights for finished goods.
• Weigh and label all finished products leaving Blast Chill.
• Move product to RTE and determine final packaging (tray or totes).
• Bag and label carts/totes with comps, sub-comps, dates and allergens.
• Coordinate with RTE Runners to stage food for Pack Room.
• Follow required safety equipment and all food safety guidelines.
• Assist with general cleaning tasks and maintain a sanitary area.
• Consult with Quality Assurance as needed.

The Blast Chill Food Safety Specialist does pre-quality assurance work involving coordination and movement of prepared food into and out of the Cryo-cabinet & Blast Chiller and into the production holding Ready to Eat (RTE) area where it is staged for the Pack Room, labeled, and allergens marked. Often a high-volume workload.

Position Responsibilities Include, But Not Limited To

• Facilitate the proper chilling of cooked products through Cryo-cabinet (when appropriate) and through the Blast Chiller within HACCP timelines and regulations
• Use digital thermometers to repeatedly check food in Blast Chiller; stir, move trays and carts, etc. to ensure food temps out within allotted time frame
• Document temperatures and weights
• Correctly weigh and label all finished product leaving Blast Chill
• Move product to RTE and determine if food will remain on tray or placed in totes
• Ensure all carts and totes are properly bagged and covered, and create and place labels with comps, sub-comps, dates, and allergens on them
• Work with RTE Runners to organize and stage food for Pack Room
• Use all required safety equipment and procedures, and consistently follow all food-related safety and sanitation guidelines
• Take initiative to assist with general cleaning tasks in the work area
• Consistently follow all food-related sanitation and operating safety guidelines including use of proper safety equipment
• Maintain clean, sanitary and orderly work area and assist with general cleaning tasks in the work area as appropriate
• Confer with Quality Assurance as needed

Required Skills And Experience

• High school diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Be able to stand/walk for up to 8-10 hours
• Be able to work in varying temperatures between 20-70 degrees
• Must have basic math skills including ability to read weight & measurement (pounds, ounces etc.)
• Shifts can include weekends and holidays and/or overtime as required
• Have a strong service orientation
• Be a team player, including the ability to communicate well with others
• Ability to work independently with little supervision

Preferred Skills And Experience

• Previous experience working on a line in a production environment

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms
• Frequently is required to stand, talk, and listen
• Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel or crouch
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
