Job summary

JBS in Ottumwa, IA seeks a 1st Shift Boiler & Engine Supervisor to oversee maintenance and ensure reliability of boiler and refrigeration systems. Responsibilities include prioritizing work orders, monitoring equipment, and performing skilled maintenance across electrical, plumbing, and hydraulic tasks.

Candidate must lead with strong communication, be able to work all 3 shifts, and maintain safety and OSHA/PSM compliance. Heavy lifting and a 40+ hour week are expected.

Responsibilities

• Adjust, repair and replace electrical and electronic equipment.
• Participate in HAZMAT team readiness.
• Promote safety in maintenance activities.
• Arrange for required paperwork such as payroll.
• Monitor refrigeration, production and boiler systems with routine checks.

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: 1st Shift Boiler & Engine Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

LOCATION: Ottumwa

SALARY CLASS: Exempt

HOURS: Full Time – Flexible as needed

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prioritize work orders and schedule mechanics according to immediacy and necessity of orders.
• Monitor all production areas to ensure proper functioning of equipment and machinery.
• Perform skilled maintenance activities including construction, welding, brazing, soldering, plumbing and hydraulics.
• Adjust, repair and replace electrical and electronic equipment.
• Participate in HAZMAT team to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.
• Promote and encourage safety in all aspects of maintenance.
• Arrange for completion of required paperwork, such as payroll.
• Monitors and maintains the refrigeration equipment, production equipment, and boiler systems through routine checks, lubrication of equipment, and repair/replacement of parts as needed.
• Maintains appropriate records and reports.
• Complies with all OSHA and company safety standards and policies
• Complies with, maintains, and updates PSM policies, procedures, and compliance reviews.
• Attend meetings as scheduled.

• Ability to monitor and operate all refrigeration and steam/boiler areas to ensure proper functioning of equipment and machinery
• Good attendance record (Less than 3points, for internal candidates)
