Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a 1st Machine Operator I in San Diego, CA. You will set up and operate saw equipment to process metal parts, read blueprints, document measurements, and ensure dimensional accuracy in a fast-paced, on-site setting.

Responsibilities include loading parts, operating band saws, using calipers, and maintaining production records. Requires HS diploma and 1+ year related experience in manufacturing with machine operation.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience using calipers to perform dimensional measurements.
• At least 1 year of experience reading simple manufacturing drawings and blueprints.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment with machine operation responsibilities.

• Document dimensions and inspection results accurately on departmental paperwork and production records.
• Apply basic math skills to calculate measurements, verify dimensions, and confirm accuracy of cuts.

Job Title: 1st Machine Operator I

The 1st Machine Operator I sets up and operates saw equipment in a production environment to process metal rods and parts according to specifications. This role works in a dedicated saw area, performs both machine and manual operations, and documents measurements to ensure products meet dimensional requirements. The position requires attention to detail, consistent quality, and the ability to work efficiently in a repetitive, fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

• Load parts and rods onto saw machines in the Sawland area according to work instructions and safety guidelines.
• Operate band saws and related cutting equipment to process material to specified dimensions.
• Perform outside operations and manual operations as needed to support the saw cutting process.
• Use calipers and other measuring tools to perform dimensional inspection and verify part measurements.
• Read and interpret simple manufacturing drawings and blueprints to understand required dimensions and tolerances.
• Document dimensions and inspection results accurately on departmental paperwork and production records.
• Apply basic math skills to calculate measurements, verify dimensions, and confirm accuracy of cuts.
• Ability to read and write at a High School level or equivalent to follow written instructions and complete departmental paperwork.
• At least 1 year of experience using calipers to perform dimensional measurements.
• At least 1 year of experience reading simple manufacturing drawings and blueprints.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with machine operation responsibilities.
• Hands-on machine operation experience, including saw operation and band saw operation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent education.
• Experience working in a repetitive production environment.
• Comfort working with power saws, band saws, and other industrial cutting equipment.
• Basic understanding of continuous improvement concepts such as lean and Six Sigma.
• Strong attention to detail when measuring and documenting dimensions.
• Willingness to learn new processes and adapt to standardized work procedures.
• Reliability and flexibility to support extended hours and optional weekend work when needed.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.75 - $20.75/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
