Job summary

Bush Elementary in Houston, Texas is seeking a 2026-2027 1st Grade Teacher to join our Alief ISD staff. You will provide engaging learning experiences, establish strong parent communication, and collaborate with specialists to meet diverse student needs.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree, a valid Texas teaching certificate with endorsements, ESL certification within two years, and demonstrated subject-area competency. Salary is aligned with the district’s 2026-2027 pay schedule and benefits.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university.
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned.
Current ESL Certification: ESL Certification required within (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in the 2010-2011 school year.
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
Gifted Teachers must have 30 hours of gifted approved hours required.

Responsibilities

Serve a diverse population of students who may be participating in state/federal programs as well as general education.
Establish and maintains a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility.
Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies).
Confer with and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators on a regular basis per building and district guidelines.
Plan and participate in all meetings and provide appropriate documentation for students regarding admissions, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences, etc.
Comply with state and federal laws, district policies, rules, regulations and administrative directives as they exist or may hereafter be amended.
Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates and curricula, multiple preparations (courses) are necessary for many.
Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the TEA and district’s curriculum program and shows written evidence of preparation as required.
Implement instructional modifications and accommodations per ARD/LPAC/504/RtI committees.
Work cooperatively with special education teachers and interventionists to modify curricula as needed for struggling general education students and special education students.
Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
Diagnose the learning needs of all students and seek the assistance of building and district leadership for appropriate intervention methods.
Assess the on-going accomplishments and needs of students, maintain appropriate records, provide immediate feedback and progress reports on a regular basis per building and district guidelines.
