Great Hearts Academies in San Antonio seeks an Assistant/Apprentice Teacher Substitute for Aug–Oct, 40 hours weekly, with the opportunity to learn under a Master Teacher and grow in a classical liberal arts environment. This long-term temporary role supports K-5 classrooms and collaborates with lead teachers.
Bachelor’s degree not required; some locations may require AA, 60 college hours, or ParaPro proficiency exam. U.S. work authorization is required.

This long-term substitute role is a temporary assignment from August through October, with a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week. We are looking for life-long learners passionate about shaping students' hearts and minds. As a K-5 Teaching Assistant, you support the lead teacher in the implementation of a rich Core Knowledge curriculum. A bachelor’s degree is not required for this role. As an Apprentice Teacher, you function as a second teacher in the classroom, without shouldering the burden of all planning, grading/evaluation, parent communications Through mentorship with a Master Teacher, you learn the craft of teaching in a classical, liberal arts primary-school environment. Many of our ATs become lead teachers at either lower or upper schools (assuming a bachelor’s degree)
Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards.
Associate's or bachelor's degree preferred but not required Some locations (e.g. Title I schools) may require assistant teachers to have an AA, 60 hours of college credit, or be able to pass a ParaProproficiency exam before beginning work.
